“Flexibility and trust on a daily basis”. Meet Kristine.

We are scaling the most ambitious – both our clients and our own team. Get an insider’s view on the life at First Engineers from a family member who has stepped onto new grounds and succeeded.

Meet Kristine:

Kristine Angeltvedt

Education: Bachelor in HR and Masters Degree in Technology and Innovation

Years at FE: 1,5

Role: Recruitment Consultant/Service Development

Best memory at FE: Right before Christmas we have a tradition of eating Christmas breakfast together. Although I’m the one in charge of organizing this – it’s definitely my favorite day at FE. Meeting up with the whole team early in the morning, lowering the lights, listening to Christmas music, wearing our Christmas jumpers and enjoying great food – what’s not to love about that? <3333

What are your current responsibilities?

As a Recruitment Consultant, I’m in charge of the recruitment process from A-Z. I’ve been working together with one of our biggest clients for the last year – scaling their design team.

As a service designer/developer, I’m leading the development of a digital and automated recruitment platform. This platform is a completely new service, and we have built the service from scratch during the last 6 months.

How does a typical week look like in your role?

It’s hard to describe a typical week for me, as my weeks are highly varied. I love the fact that I get to wear multiple hats at the same time, but I have to admit that it requires a lot of structure 🙂 Normally I split my week into two, one half focused on recruitment and the other half focused on the platform.

How would you describe the development opportunities at FE?

If I were to point out one thing about FE, then it is certainly the development opportunities one gets as an employee here. I’ve been given the chance to develop myself a lot during the last 1,5 year at FE. 6 months ago, I was asked to lead the service development of our recruitment platform, even though I had no experience with this from the past. The learning curve has been really steep, and I’ve been touching upon stuff that I have no clue how to approach or solve. What has motivated me in this development process is the fact that my leaders see my potential, and gives me confidence and support along the way. I’m getting opportunities and responsibilities that I would never get somewhere else. They really believe in you as an employee, and the development opportunities are endless.

How would you describe the culture?

The culture at FE is really unique. We are a great team of young and ambitious people that perform very well together, but also have a great load of fun. We have a culture that makes us look forward to work every day, but also pushes us to deliver our best at all times. We have really built a culture that motivates and keeps us going, although the tempo is high and requires a lot from us.

Could you explain ROWE?

For me, ROWE is equal to flexibility and trust on a daily basis. By focusing on results only, you get the chance to structure and plan your workflow as you’d like. Both leaders and colleagues trust that you know your best way of performing, and when and where to work.

Where do you see FE in a two-year perspective?

I’ve been a part of a huge growth the last 1,5 year, and I know that we will just continue to grow. It’s amazing to see what this company and all of us can accomplish together, and I know that in 2 years time – we will be even bigger, even better and even more ambitious.

How would you recommend working at FE?

You should join us at FE because it’s one of the greatest chances you will ever get. I’m pretty sure that if you want to work with recruitment in Norway, FE is the place to be. We work with some of the biggest and coolest companies in and outside Norway, and you really get the chance to recruit for important positions and scale teams in companies that are truly unique. As a person, you will get the chance to grow and learn. You will take part in a team that gives you courage, strength and motivation every day.

Any advice for new employees?

Show us who you really are from day one. In FE we are personal, not corporate. We are family, not colleagues. We love to spend time together both at work and outside. We want you to show us your personality, and make us laugh with your worst jokes. We want you to be comfortable enough to be the same person at work as you would with friends. We appreciate diversity and the fact that we are all different. We are really looking forward to getting to know you!

“Take initiative. Be hungry. Ask.” Meet Palak.

We are scaling the most ambitious – both our clients and our own team. Get an insider’s view on the life at First Engineers from a family member who works her hat off and has fun doing it.

Meet Palak:

Palak Bisen

Education MSc Leadership and Organizational Psychology – BI Norwegian Business School, Oslo

Years at FE 1.5

Role: Recruitment Consultant

Best memory at FE:

My first year celebrating Diwali in the Oslo office, sharing a bit of the culture I grew up in with what has become my family in Oslo and feeling accepted.

What are your current responsibilities?

Complete ownership of recruitment processes – client dialogue, project management, sourcing, screening and psychometric test administration and assessment.

How does a typical week look like in your role?

Busy!  My day (and week) often starts with taking an overview of what the rest of it looks like, what deadlines I have coming up, and putting together a plan for what I need to get done and by when. Projects can often be in different phases, meaning that some require periods of search and screening, while others are more about status meetings and dialogue with clients, or interviews with candidates. With any luck, I’m able to end my week having finished all the tasks and line up action points for the next week. Then it’s time for our weekly Kahoot! with the rest of the team.

How would you describe the development opportunities at FE?

Several, initiative-driven, and steep; there are many different kinds of development opportunities, and the best ones come often to those who show interest or take the first step in that direction. They may often feel like being thrown off the deep end of the pool, but rest assured that this place has what it takes to make you a seasoned expert. And there’s always a lifeguard with a pole standing nearby to help out if it gets too much 🙂

How would you describe the culture?

Work culture – busy! We’re all driven individuals that like to be engaged, and I don’t think any of us would be very happy if we weren’t being productive. Team culture – a bunch of crazy, but welcoming and warm individuals. We know how to have fun, we like to learn from each other, and we contribute and share to each other’s growth.
Could you explain ROWE?

Results Only Work Environment – it’s a principle that is simultaneously liberating as it is a quality control mechanism.  We don’t count hours, we have the flexibility to work from anywhere and at any time, as long as we are delivering on our results. ROWE works beautifully to accommodate our individual working styles while keeping us motivated because it ensures we keep our goals in sight.

Where do you see FE in a two-year perspective?

Growing even more! More domains, more locations, more professional expertise brought on board, the most exciting clients. I see FE dominating the Norwegian recruitment landscape, and beginning to take international steps, either in Europe or taking leaps and going to Asia/US.

How would you recommend working at FE?

There isn’t a better environment where you get to be part of and shape this kind of growth and expansion in a company while pushing your own limits as a professional. Your voice is heard, your initiatives implemented.

Also, we do so much fun stuff together! Last year we were in the beautiful city of Krakow for our off-site trip, this year we went to a snowy paradise in the Norwegian mountains. We do weekly Kahoot! quizzes, monthly social gatherings (darts competition next month!) and host an annual mini-golf tournament with our clients.

Any advice for new employees?

Take initiative, both socially and professionally – it is much appreciated around here! Take ownership – we want you to be part of building this company. Be hungry – never settle for how things are. Challenge, and seek to improve our processes and the data and research we base them on.
Ask –  anyone if you’re ever in doubt, there is nothing we want more than for you to succeed so that we can succeed 🙂

“We are doing something special here.” Meet Marius.

We are scaling the most ambitious – both our clients and our own team. Get an insider’s view on the life at First Engineers from a family member who has come to the company quite recently and has a fresh point of view.

Meet Marius:

Marius Lugg

Education: Bachelor in HR and HRM from Kristiania University College

Years at FE: 6 months

Role: Talent Acquisition Consultant

Best memory at FE:

This might sound a bit like a cliché, but I find it hard to pick just one. We, of course, do a lot of fun stuff outside of work, but for me, it’s all about the things happening on a day-to-day basis. For instance, our spontaneous and crazy intense “throw the tennis ball in the trash-bin” contest, where the loser has to go to the supermarket to buy candy or soda when we all get a synchronized craving for sweets. We also have a Kahoot! each Friday with the whole office, where the winner gets a prize like a bottle of wine. With so many competitive people gathered in one place, we do not joke around when the weekly Kahoot! is happening. Humiliating my colleagues in FIFA is also something I’ll never get tired of!

What are your current responsibilities?

I’m responsible for the initial phases of the process; sourcing, contact, and screening of candidates, as well as writing job ads and job analysis, posting on Social Media etc. I also do all of the communication with both clients and candidates and make sure that we stick to the project plan.

How does a typical week look like in your role?

Every week starts off with our Monday meeting, where we synchronize on the past and the upcoming week. After that, I always set aside some time to plan my week, to make sure all projects are getting the focus and attention needed. The rest of the week is usually a good mixture of sourcing, contacting candidates, interviews, client meetings, and keeping up with the tech-scene or other relevant markets.

How would you describe the development opportunities at FE?

Without any doubt, excellent. We get a lot of responsibility early on, and you can really feel that proactiveness and being independent is something that everyone here praises. The bar for asking a colleague is also really low, so we learn a lot from each other each day which also helps to boost our self-development.

How would you describe the culture?

Forward-leaning, professional and fun. We take nothing for granted and know that it’s professionalism, knowledge and hard work that not only has taken us where we are today, but will also help us reach our ambitious goals, both short and long term.

Could you explain ROWE?

Sure! ROWE stands for Results Only Work Environment and means in short that we’re not measured by input, but output and our results. I love ROWE, as it constantly fuels my autonomy. For instance, we do not count vacation weeks, and you do not need to be at the office every day (but I mean, this is where the fun is going on, so people are mostly here). It’s all about being your own boss, with the responsibility and freedom that comes with it. If you have been working hard for some time, producing results and feel that you need some time off to charge your batteries, then take a vacation. This is ROWE at its finest.

Where do you see FE in a two-year perspective?

I think the next two years will be all about healthy growth for First Engineers. We will without any doubt be in an even stronger position than we are today in the Norwegian recruitment market, but I think and hope that we also are expanding even more outside of Norway. Last year we opened a branch in Krakow – why stop there?

How would you recommend working at FE?

I do really believe that we are doing something special here, and it’s a powerful thing to feel that you are an important component of such an amazing journey with all these awesome people. When you also feel that you grow as an individual, both professionally and on a personal level, I think that combination is rare and is something you won’t get in a lot of places.

Any advice for new employees?

Be yourself and never be afraid to share both good things and frustrations with your colleagues. We truly have a family-like feeling, and a family is always there to help you on the road to success.

“Ask questions and dare to challenge us”. Meet Christian.

We are scaling the most ambitious – both our clients and our own team. Get an insider’s view on the life at First Engineers from a family member who has witnessed a big part of our growth.

Meet Christian:

Christian Hammer

Education: Business & Economics

Years at FE: 2

Role: Recruitment Consultant/Onsite Consultant

Best memory at FE: Moving from a 20 square meter office to a 500 square meter office. That was a great sign that we were doing something right.

What are your current responsibilities?

I do everything from A to Z in helping our clients scale. I’ve worked with the founders of a fast-growing startup in defining their hiring strategy, as well as taking charge of recruitment and assessments. I’m currently in a split role where I work with exciting startups, as well as working onsite at one of the world’s largest telecom companies, helping managers to find the right people as their teams continue to grow.

How does a typical week look like in your role?

It’s a good split between sourcing, interviewing and client meetings.
How would you describe the development opportunities at FE?

The growth opportunities at FE have always been at the core of my desire to work here. You get as much responsibility as you take!

How would you describe the culture?

Result-oriented and very including. We celebrate every win together. Great opportunities for professional growth.

Could you explain ROWE?

ROWE is about the results you deliver, not the number of hours you put in. This means a lot of freedom and responsibility. It means heavy workloads at times, but also extra days of vacation when you need it.

Where do you see First Engineers in a two-year perspective?

I believe FE will be an established company and the preferred go-to agency within our core markets.

How would you recommend working at FE?

You will make a huge impact on both individuals and companies. You’ll get the opportunity to work with the hottest startups/scaleups and with some of the largest corporates in Norway.

Any advice for new employees?

Ask questions and dare to challenge us.
